Day 7: What Was Indifference

You can't hear her pleas.
You can't see her on her kness.
You can't acknowledge the begging.
You can't watch her cry.
You can't wait to leave her company.
You can't stand to be there another minute.
You can't tear yourself away.
You can't back off of her heart.
You can't stop tearing her apart.
You can't admit you need her.
You can't let the truth slip out.
But can you tell her you love her?

Day 6: Scream

For the ones who look fine.
For the ones who aren’t fine.
For the ones who will never be fine.
For the ones who feel broken.
For the ones who will never feel whole.
For the ones who just need to scream.
When all you can do in this world
Is throw your hands to your ears,
Curl up in corner,
And scream.
Scream.
Scream until someone comes running,
Even though you know
Nobody ever will
Because nobody ever does.
So scream,
Scream,
Scream with your arms wrapped
Around the little sanity that you’ve
Managed to keep somewhat together.
Scream until your outside
Is just as shattered
As your inside.

Day 5: Writer's Block

It's hard,
The always blank,
The never-ending space,
The lines that never come to me.
Not great.

Day 4: The Mind of a Child

Nightmares make homes inside your head,
Conjuring ghastly ghosts underneath your bed.
Within your bedroom here, they park.
Bright red eyes watch you from the dark.
A timid question asks, "Who's there?"
But it's you that's trespassing in their lair.
They answer your call with a wicked scream
That pulls your mind apart at the seams.
Slimy fingers creep up your leg.
You know it'd be no use to beg.
Constricting hands wrap around your throat,
But the light reveals it's just your coat.
The fingers are your old dog's tongue,
The red eyes, the robot toy that you flung.
The scream, you realize, was your own.
It's only been you, all alone.
So you lay back down and close your eyes,
And kiss those evil dreams goodbye.

Day 3: The Unwinnable War

A happy, cheerful face
That she tries to hide behind,
Concealing always downcast eyes
And her ever-broken smile.
Tears that threaten to overflow
When others are around
Refuse to fall and stay inside
When she finally is alone.
She's always heard "Life isn't fair".
She didn't know it would be this hard.
When all else fails and she wants to scream,
She wraps herself in a novel's arms.
Friends that try to make her laugh,
They just don't understand.
Every word they say to her
Is another invisible blade against her hand.
At the end of the day
As she falls asleep
Her music still plays on,
Harmonizing battle cries
Against a war she hasn't won.

Day 2: Behind the Lies

He told me he loved me.
He told me I had eyes
As blue as the sun,
And hair
As dark as snow.
He told me he was a poet,
And therefore,
He was as clever as a rock.
Well,
He said my heart
Was as big as my eye.
How very genius,
All the lies.
But I'll tell you now,
That boy's a crook,
And he's the winner,
Like Captain Hook.

Day 1: A Sound of Thunder

Slowly, silently, now the moon
Rises in her nightly grace.
Nocturnal creatures will awaken soon
And gaze upon her godly face.
When wicked wolves lean back their heads,
They bark their joys and howl their fears.
And children clamber out of beds
And cry to parents with salty tears.
Wise old owls take to the skies,
Searching for meals with which to fight.
They find mice with beady eyes
And grasp and take back into flight.
And here I sit upon my chair,
With heavy eyes and childlike wonder.
At Mother Moon I gladly stare,
And listen to creatures sound like thunder.
